How to track restaurant tips in TrackMyTips

What this guide covers

This is the shift habit TrackMyTips is built around: clock a role, log each tip as an amount (with an optional note), record an optional Total Tip-Out in dollars, then clock out. It matches the iOS app — Hostess, Expo, Server, and Bartender — not a generic spreadsheet method.

1. Clock in with the role you are working

On Home, pick Hostess, Expo, Server, or Bartender, then clock in. Those four roles are the only options; the app does not let you type a custom job title. If you already scheduled the shift, Home can offer that scheduled item so you clock in from it instead of picking the role again.

Set an hourly wage per role in Settings before you clock in if you want wages on the shift. The wage is stored on the shift at clock-in. Editing the shift later changes times, role, tip-out, and workplace — not that stored wage.

The app is built around one in-progress shift: you clock out (or add a completed shift) before starting another.

2. Log tips as they come in

Each tip is an amount, an optional note, and a timestamp. There is no cash-versus-card field. If you care which tips were cash, put that in the note (for example “cash” or “table 5”).

Add Tip lets you enter several amounts in one sitting — up to 30 — with quick buttons for $5, $10, and $20. One optional note is saved on every tip in that batch. Gross tips for the shift are the sum of those amounts.

If you already left and only remember a night total, Shifts → Add Shift can store a lump “Total Tips” amount. That entry is saved as a single tip with the note “Manual entry total.” Per-tip rows are better when you still have them; a night total is better than nothing.

3. Record Total Tip-Out if you gave money away

Tip-out is one optional dollar total for the whole shift — not a percentage, and not a per-person breakdown. Leave it blank if you have not recorded it. Enter $0 if you explicitly did not tip out. Enter the amount you gave away if you did.

After you clock out as Server or Bartender, the shift list can ask “Did you tip out?” Hostess and Expo shifts do not get that prompt, but any role can still save a Total Tip-Out on the shift. Net tips are gross tips minus that amount (or minus $0 if you never recorded one).

4. Clock out, then look at more than one night

Clock out on Home when you are done. You can still edit clock times, role, tips, tip-out, and an optional workplace. For the week, use Reports → This Week, or Shifts → Calendar and tap a day. A single Saturday does not tell you much; several clocked shifts with tip-outs filled in does.
