How TrackMyTips calculates hourly rate with tips and wages

The formula the app uses

Posted wage is not take-home. For each shift TrackMyTips computes:

Wages earned = (duration in minutes ÷ 60) × the hourly wage stored on that shift.

Net tips = total tips − (tip-out, or $0 if you never recorded one).

Total earnings = net tips + wages earned.

Per hour for a range is total earnings ÷ hours, but only if the shifts in that range add up to at least 30 minutes. Below that, Reports shows $0.00 per hour so a 12-minute clock-in does not invent a rate.

Worked example

Seven hours as Expo, $12/hour, $83.20 in tips, no tip-out: wages $84, total earnings $167.20, about $23.89/hour. Same hours as Server, $12/hour, $38.50 in tips, $6 Total Tip-Out: net tips $32.50, wages $84, total $116.50, about $16.64/hour. The comparison that matters is that true rate over many shifts, not the loudest Saturday.

Wage is a snapshot

Settings holds an hourly wage for each of Hostess, Expo, Server, and Bartender. When you clock in (or add a shift), that role’s current wage is copied onto the shift. A raise you enter later does not rewrite old shifts. Editing a shift does not replace the stored wage either. If you clock in with $0 set for that role, wages earned for that shift stay $0 until you add a new shift after updating Settings.

Which reports show $/hour

Reports does not have a “Today” range. You pick This Week, Last Week, Last Month, or All Time. The headline for that range is total earned, net tips, wages, per hour, shift count, and hours. Expandable sections add money detail (including tip-outs, best/worst shift, and per-tip stats when tip rows have loaded), performance (hours, shift length, best/worst hourly rate on shifts of at least 30 minutes), and a breakdown by role.
